Health tips for women - The phases of the menstrual cycle. We explain how the female menstrual cycle works and what phases are composed. Knowing your cycle will help you control your fertile days and know your body better.
The female menstrual cycle lasts an average of 28 days, although it is considered normal between 21 and 35 days.
It is divided into 4 phases: menstruation, follicular phase, ovulation and luteal phase.
The day begins menstrual bleeding is considered day 1 of the cycle. If we consider a 28 -day menstruation occurs between days 1-4.

Phase 1: Menstruation
Days 1 to 7 : The endometrium should nest where the embryo breaks and falls. The fluid drops from within the uterus through the cervix, and expelled through the vagina. A normal menstrual period lasts from 3 to 7 days.
Phase 2: Follicular Phase
Days 6 to 12 ( or more) : The ovaries begin to secrete estrogen and progesterone. While estrogen thickens the endometrium which hath the conceived embryo, progesterone keeps the uterus intact walls.
Phase 3: Ovulation
Days 13 to 15 : follicle stimulating hormone ( FSH ) and luteinizing hormone ( LH ) is released. The first allows the eggs to develop in the ovary and the second one free mature eggs.
Phase 4: Phase luteal
It is the fourth phase of the menstrual cycle and begins just after ovulation. If the egg is not fertilized by a sperm or does not implant, the endometrial surface is no longer needed and is prepared for deletion. The cycle is completed and menstruation begin again.
