feel-goodWhat routine is good for the summer ? Summer is just around the corner, and parents should consider setting guidelines and establish routines so that children enjoy the summer and stay busy. The summer routine does not have to be as structured as the school year, says Dr. Rachelle Tyler, developmental and behavioral pediatrician at Mattel Children ‘s Hospital UCLA . ” Setting limits to early summer and encourage children to follow a routine instills in them the concept of planning and moderation , which is very important in a person’s life ,” says the doctor.

Summer health tips

Talk to your children about activities they would like to participate in the summer. For example , find out what they want to learn , see and do . With this information parents can provide children with choices such as camps, remedial classes or special trips .

Encourage them to perform activities

Summer camps can provide children with opportunities to improve their skills and make friends. There are camps that cater to all kinds of children and interests.

In addition to private camps , many parks and community organizations offer camp programs during the day , as well as team sports and habilidadesdeportivas programs . You can also find other activities that are hidden in plain sight. For example , hobby shops , libraries , museums and community centers often organize summer programs for children.

academic Programs

Children should keep up on your reading and academic skills during the summer months , says Dr. Tyler . Many schools provide lists of summer reading or assign summer projects . Parents can encourage children to read for pleasure during the summer , says Dr. Tyler , leading them to the library weekly to choose at least one new book . By strengthening the academic knowledge , parents show children that success takes practice .

Children who have had difficulty with a particular subject during the school year , or who may benefit by preparing in advance for a new subject - could choose school or tutoring programs in the summer.

Set plans and limits

All function more efficiently with a structure. Parents can prepare in a leaf, along with their children, a weekly or monthly plan which details activities, events and tasks. With a schedule , children spend an integral part of activities , with an established set of expectations and goals for which they are responsible.

Although there is a plan , it is possible that activities such as watching television and using the computer to intrude more during the summer months . Dr. Tyler cautions to ” put children had the same limits during the school year.” If you have too much unstructured time , will be more difficult to return to the routine of school in September.

Family Fun

In addition to vacation , summer offers great opportunities for families to do together to see or things you may not have time during the school year . Whether it’s a bicycle tour to enjoy the entire family or a visit to the aquarium , summer is the ideal time to take advantage and activities that enrich the lives of children and families together .
