The dreaded “ground effect” diets

The dangers of following a low calorie diet are too many. We are used to hearing the dangers of overweight and obesity to health, but when an obese person to lose weight, you must do so by following a balanced diet that allows a gradual and sustained loss in time.
We’ve talked in the past that we must avoid excessive calorie diets and miracle diets. Such diets endanger our health although many people defend them because, they have managed to lose weight fast because of them.
This is true at first. What happens the first weeks after starting a diet like this is a waste of rapid and evident weight, however, after these first weeks the body “gets stuck” and slows the loss up to a point where it seems that it will not fall more. This point is called “ground effect of diets” and to overcome it, an extra calorie reduction is necessary. That is, if the diet was already quite restrictive hypocaloric now will be even more which makes the continuation of the scheme and put in more health risk.
The effect of diets soil occurs mainly because, before a sudden caloric restriction, the body responds by losing the first charge is less necessary: water. With the loss of fluid you lose weight (but not fat) and volume, so the people who follow this diet report having lost the first kilos soon.
If caloric restriction is very severe body feels exhausted and unable to continue keeping, so to get the missing energy and nutrients begins to use its own muscle mass, thus can be said to kill two birds with one stone: one side gets protein and energy and another pound of excess burden of maintaining the body musculature, and muscles need energy and protein to keep. However, at this stage, the person will continue to monitor weight loss, although slower.

Finally, the body will launch a series of mechanisms to ensure its survival: it will slow your metabolism (which is more noticeable if you have lost a lot of muscle mass) and stop losing weight because they can keep up with those few calories, therefore, some people can become seriously jeopardize your health by restricting their food again or start doing treatments type clash “spending a week with fruit and soup” or “spend a week based maple syrup”, etc.
That is the so-called “ground effect of the diets.” Unfortunately, I still find many people who blindly believe that’s the best way to lose weight and you will not get any other way. My answer to these people is that they can lose weight healthy and balanced but always it is constant and does not intend to get miraculous results.
Still need a lot of health and nutrition education to make them disappear so many internet searches such as “I want to lose 15 kilos in two weeks” or even “I want to lose 30 kilos in two weeks.”
