diet-programBeing obese and not eating a healthy diet is associated with the development of early markers of renal disease.

A new study, published in the American Journal of Kidney Disease, suggests that an unhealthy diet, obesity and bad habits like snuff are associated with an increased risk of renal disease.

This group of researchers found that people with normal renal function but still an unhealthy diet were more likely to develop kidney disease. In addition, people with obesity ( BMI of at least 30) were twice as likely to develop this type of disease. As smokers were 60 % more likely.

One of the parameters measured in the study was the presence of protein in the urine, which is a sign of renal disease. Only 1% of people who follow a healthy diet occurred during the period of the study this sign. However, 13% of participants who followed an unhealthy diet, and smoking were obese, had this sign indicating renal failure. That is, the combination of following a poor diet, obesity and smoking greatly increases the risk of kidney disease.
